This is a review i wrote a long time ago (i guess in 2003 or 2004) in response to an article written in indiantimes.com about Maldivian culture getting effected as news extracted from a Maldivian newspaper.

Well, what I'm going to include in this review may not be accepted by some Maldivians .And for some, it may sound like hitting on my own head. Because criticizing my own people and appreciating some others would mean so ,for some people. But I believe truth should be implemented, no matter what the topic is about. And of course accepting and correcting our own mistakes ,will more sound curing for oneself.

First of all I would like to correct that the carnival where Aamna Shariff[Kashish] and Kum kum[Juhi Pamar] performed, were not a part of Eid celebration but of a celebration on the 75th anniversary of a local school named as 'Majeedhiyya'. Its true that some serial celebrities performed in Hinnavaru island during Eid ,but they were not Aamna or Juhi. Where else ,they were Anuragh ,Komolika and Tushar of Kasauti Zindagi ke and sonali of Kusum. And also they performed in one night at the diamond jubilee carnival.Apart from Aamna and Juhi ,Rajeev [Sujal ]and Hussain[Smith] performed on last February. And very recently Manisha Koirala,Sanjay khan ,Meghna Naidu and Sanoba gave away a show on 1st,2nd and 3rd . of April

So regarding their performance, I wonder how they have effected our culture or what so ever. The truth is that there is no chance for our locals or Maldivian celebrities to complain about it.I'm amazed that we don't accept Our status in the entertainment world. Being a Maldivian ,I really feel sad to say that Maldivians are far more behind in performing, prestige, and talents than Indians. The Maldivian film or entertainment industry is very tiny and inexperienced when compared to Indians. Most of the movies and songs are copied in fact over copied. And the copied works are ridiculous and silly to watch

Almost all the viewers of hindhi entertainment media via television would recommend hindhi stars over Maldivians. So what's the problem in letting us satisfy our eagerness to meet our favorites. I agree with Aamna for what she said was completely sensible.

I could testify that our celebrities must admit it and try to enhance their talent without talking nonsense.Well about the overflowing crowd gathered in the carnival was one of facts. The tickets for the shows were Maximum Mrf 100 [approx ; 300 Indian rupees ] to minimum Mrf 25[about 75 indian rupees ]Even the stars were amazed about the huge crowd. But what I'm trying to make precise is that even Mrf 100 was worth for that opportunity. As we got the chance to see them so close, talk to them and even hug them as for rare chances .This was a really great opportunity for each and everyone of us.And we greatly appreciate it.

And about the shows given by our local celebrities .I bet 5% of the crowd[gathered on diamond jubilee carnival]will not spend even Mrf 20 for them.As most of the celebrities live in the capital city and as Male' is a very small place we are not surprised or excited to meet them on the road,in restaurants or perhaps in shopping malls. But they are mostly welcomed by the people living in the islands. And they almost have got the chance ,may be many times, including their visits for shootings and others.

I could guess the local stars were bothered about this because they missed one of the greatest celebration, as Eid is expected by lots of people. And may be for the amount of money they have missed. And about culture I don't understand how it is affected by bringing Indian stars, where the truth is our local stars usually gives performance of a dances or songs of the latest hindhi or Dhivehi songs. They have never performed in any cultural dance or activity so far. So what's the difference if it is performed by Indians or Maldivians. In fact the only difference is they are better and the chance to see them will be a rare opportunity.

And about the trip of Ronit Roy, Hiten Tejwani and Simone Singh, I could say that it was the beginning of serial fever in here. They came on last year March for an inauguration of a multiplex named Evince. And I believe that it was a success for the owner, for deciding to bring them.Because the shop is famous and well known due to the three of them. And most amazing thing is that the people recognize the place in the begining as 'Mr Bajaj shop? 'instead of Evince.

So this is the vast difference between Indian stars and of our own.Even Rico Moosa Maniku [who has commented that "The influence of Hindi (Indian) film stars on Maldivian audiences have gone out of hand', is a businessman who owns 2 or 3 shops in Male bt dont think he is anymore(as he is a politician now) . But I'm sure, that there will be plenty of people who will not be aware of a single shop of him,at that time.

So lets admit that we need to travel a long journey and need to make a mark in our own community by enhancing the skill, performance and effort .And I'm sure we could achieve it only by accepting our weakness and correcting them.Pointing fingers at others is not the solution ,we need to keep our hands together and work hard to overtake them ...good luck Maldivian Film industry.
